Trade-in my old Macbook Pro? (Australia)

Hi Guys,

I have a question. Last year I bought a Macbook Pro for my job.

The specs on the machine I bought:

Macbook Pro 15inch
2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
3GB RAM
160GB 5400rpm HDD

I’ve just seen the updated Macbook Pro on the Apple site and I am wondering what would be the cost in trading in/upgrading my machine to the following:

Macbook Pro 15inch
2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB RAM
250GB 5400 rpm HDD
Apple Remote – are they not part of “what’s in the box” anymore??

What are my options here guys?

i also bought a macbook pro (17") last year (around june of 07), and after seeing the new ones, with an upgraded video card (i'm kind of a mobile gamer), was wondering if there were any way to go about trading in for the new ones?

To trade in you would need to negotiate with a dealer. You could also look in eBay to see what prices are being fetched for your model.

The Apple remotes are an optional extra at AUD29 - (an inflated price given that they are USD19).

You can check all this by going to Apple's online Australia store and start the selection process for your desired options. As you make your choices the total price will be updated so that you know what you will be up for. Of course, some dealers may be willing to negotiate price with you.

Just be aware the Apple Store, or Apple Store Online, will not take a trade-in. You would need to sell the one you have and buy the new one.

seems like that option is no go, i just got this back from my local next byte store:

just to let you know, we have not done trade ins for quite some time. unfortunately we cannot do hardware upgrades besides hard drives which would cost to get replaced due to a service labour cost.

Hi benon,

not sure which part of Oz you are in, but I would check out the Melbourne based "New Wave Systems" - http://www.newwavesystems.com.au/nws/home.html - who have been dealing in new AND trade in / S.H. macs for quite some time now.

thanks for that link champ, but i found the trade in options they provided to be a joke at best. i have sourced a friend who wants to buy it for $2500, i am gonna take her up on it and upgrade to the 2.5, 4gb RAM, 250gb hdd. it will cost me less than a grand to do it and i recon it's worth it. thanks for the tips anyway!
