Canadian spelling

I bought my Mac in the U.S., but go to university in Canada and need to use Canadian spelling here. How do I change the OS's built-in dictionary to Canadian (e.g., "colour" instead of "color") so that when I'm typing in most apps (Safari, TextEdit, iChat, etc) it doesn't underline the Canadian spelling?

Hi MrawhoMEye

Open system preferences and select the international tab. In the language tab select the "edit list..." button. Find Canadian English in the list and tick the box. Hit Ok and it should appear in the list at the top on the left. You can now close System Preferences. Log out and back in for the changes to take effect.

Also in under the "input menu" tab find "Canadian English" in the list and select it. Also make sure the box show input menu in menu bar is selected. On the top right hand side of the menu bar there will be a small picture of a flag, click on this it will show a list of available inputs select the Canadian flag from the list.

In pretty much any Apple application (including Safari and Text Edit) go to Edit > Spelling and Grammar > Show Spelling and Grammar. Then from the drop down menu choose "Canadian English" rather than "English" (which means American English). Then close that window and log out of OS X. When you log back in applications will spell check in what Apple thinks is Canadian English. You won't need to repeat this for all applications but some applications don't make use of OS X's dictionary.
