Audiobooks- abridged or unabridged

This is probably a stupid question but whats the differense between abridged fiction or unabridged version an audiobook?
I can see that there's a big time and price difference but why?

Hi giselas,

Abridged basically means shortened, so parts of the whole book have been cut out. The unabridged version is the full content.

So obviously, you'll see a difference between their prices.

Abrige: to shorten by omission of words without sacrifice of sense

In other words the abriged version is shorter. If it's done well then you should get all the significant content of the piece, if not then I guess you lose some of both the substance & the flavour of the original work.
