I have been using Maxtor one touch to backup my Vaio on Maxtor 500 GB drive for 6 months. When I bought my new Macbook Pro last week, I tried to use it with Time Machine and to avoid having to format and loose my VAIO backup, I was forced to create FAT partition which I later formated with Time Machine and used for backup till I got new Time Capsule. After long struggle, with time machine, I have been able to detect both my time capsule, and 100 GB fragment I have been using for backup with time machine but cannot see the bigger segment. I have not been able to use Maxtor one touch for back up. Is there any software equivalent to time machine or capable of backup on hard drive hooked via time machine?
It may be Maxtor. I have a 300GB One Touch II with iMac Intel, and was using it for Time Machine for about 5 months. Then, all of a sudden, I noticed the icon gone from the Desktop and now I've lost all backups and the Maxtor is "brain dead".
Did yoyu ever get the Maxtor problem resolved? Maxtor no longer supports OneTouch III and my 300GB drives (two of them, one for Vista and other Leopard) no longer recognized after 8 months of great backups and restores. Apple doesn't want to touch the problem and I am speaking with them now and telling them that something in Time Machine corrupted file and rendered both useless.
