Result code 9011

I tried to import a DVD to my iMovie and it recognized the movie but wouldn't import it. I tried Toast to make it a Quicktime movie and a Mac OS error came up with the result code 9011. I tried MAc the ripper but it only ripped 2 minutes of 12 minutes and iMovie still would accept it. Does anyone know how I can import this DVD? It's not a protected DVD it's a personal one that was downloaded from a mini DV camera, burned to a DVD and given to me.

Mac OS X (10.5.2)

The standard format of a DVD is mpeg2 which is a delivery format not intended for editing.

You need to convert the VOB files back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html

which is free, as well as the the Apple mpeg2 plugin :

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/

which is a mere $20.

Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:

which costs $25.

Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

Welcome to Apple Discussions.

I've seen similar issues and it most likely is a problem with timecode breaks. This is easily repaired using MPEG Streamclip (which requires Apple's QuickTime MPEG 2 Playback Component). Open the video from the DVD in MPEG Streamclip and choose Fix Timecode Breaks from the Edit menu. When done choose Convert to MPEG to extract the MPEG file for use in Toast. Or Streamclip can export to DV for use in iMovie. It's also easy to trim parts of the video you want to export.

Next time ask for the DV video if possible so you don't need to go through these extra steps.
