Can't create a new account on ibook

Can't create a new account on ibook

I want to set up a new account on my ibook, but it won't let me.

I am the only user at the moment, and marked as an administrator.

Any suggestions? I have tried clicking on the lock, and typing in the admin password, but this hasn't helped.

ibook g4, Mac OS X (10.3.x)

Select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu. Enter "new account" in the search term field without quotes. You should see an article listed about creating new user accounts.

At which point in the process are you stopped?
Please post exactly what procedure you are using, and what is happening.

sorry, I wasn't more specific.

When I click on the + icon/button to add a new account (in accounts on system prefs) nothing happens

Is the padlock in the open or closed position?

If it is closed, when you click it, in the Authenticate window that opens, is a name, that is associated with an Admin account, displayed, and is that the account you are logged in with?

If so, when you enter your Admin password, what happens?

It is currently unlocked. I have tried locking it and unlocking it. It then asks for my name (which is the one i"m logged in with) and password, which I entered, but nothing changed when I tried pressing the + icon again.

It accepted my password, and I know that works in other things ie, the time and date settings

Have you ever been able to add accounts?

If so, how many accounts do you have on the iBook?

If there is another Admin account, have you tried logging in with that one, to see if you can create an additional account?

Mine is the only account. I've never tried adding one before
