Blank CD not showing on Desktop

Not sure if I'm posting this question in the right place, but I have bought some Imation CD-R disks and when I insert them into the drive, they do not show up on the desktop. I successfully burnt some photos from Iphoto, but when I re-inserted the disk, the Disk Utilities came up and I can't access them. Any ideas?

Hi, I'm having this problem too. When I insert a blank CD-R, iTunes opens, and I am able to burn music to a disc using iTunes. But I can't get the disc to display on the Desktop. I understand that after inserting the disc, I am supposed to get a dialog box asking me to name the disc, but this doesn't happen. As a result, I am unable to copy photos or Word documents onto blank discs.
