Logic Freezes initializing core audio

My Logic 7 just started doing this, it loads and gets stuck initializing core audio, then the program ends up not responding and I have to force quit. Anyone know how to get past this? Its never done this before.

I believe your right that I am having serious problems with my mac, and i'm not sure what the deal is. I do run external audio hardware but it works fine with all other programs so I don't believe its a driver issue. When you say to trash the preferences do mean to literally, "trash" the preferences folder? Will this make logic walk me through all the parameters for setup again?

Hi Rob,

I saw your message re Core Audio and wondered if you you wouldn't mind if I asked you a question - You seem like you might be the man to ask.

I have a Dual 867 PowerPC G4. I'm running Logic Pro 7.2.3 with a Delta Audiophile 2496 card. The whole thing is locking up with the error message "CORE AUDIO - The audio engine was not able to process all requires data in time" all the time. I'm not running that much audio. Is there anything I can do? Cheers,

David

I did buy the 2496 about 7 years ago.
The drivers were a little buggy but the card was usable.
I had even some mailing with M-Audio support and they paid a lot of attention to my problems.

One of the issues was that when you stopped Logic the sound began to repeat endlessly 1 or 2 seconds of audio like an old record.

After many update the problem was solved about 2 years later.

Last year I upgraded the drivers and the problem came back!!!

With subsequent upgrades I begun to experiment the same problem with iTunes too and the Mac begun completely instable with a lot of kernel panics :-((

At the end I've removed the card, uninstalled all the drivers and now my mac is solid rock.

The fact that Digidesign acquired M-Audio is only another problem in the problem: they screw up anything they touch (until you use Pro Tools, obviously).

In the past I had some hard conversations with Digi support about their interpretation of Core Audio drivers....... I sold my M-Box!

So, it's sorry to say, but if you want to solve your problem sell your audio card and, for the future, stay away from Digidesign and M-Audio (until you don't want to use Pro Tools).

And this conclusion is sad because, at that price, the 2496 is a great audio interface.

On my old G4 I use the phones output linked to my Pioneer Amplifier who's output goes to a pair of wonderful Kef Speakers.

On the PowerBook I use, as I need, internal audio, a Monster Cable iStudioLink and a MOTU Traveler.

It's difficult to suggest one or another because it seems to me that there's always someone who has problem with this brand or that!

My old Macs have never given such problems to me (apart those with the 2496) so I'd say that you'd be ok with one of the models that are often named here (and you have to consider your budget, too).

To stay more or less on the cheap side (but only you know your real needs):

Presonus Inspire and FireBox
MOTU Ultralite
Apogee Duet

and so on......

There's people here happy with their Roland FA-66 (I think) and others with the Echo models.

Thinking of the I/O of the 2496 I'd say that the Inspire could be a good choice.

Morning,

Thanks for this. You're a star. Very useful info. Thanks. I will look into this.

Can I ask you one other quick question - I have the aforementioned Dual 867 dual G4 with 2Gb RAM which is struggling so badly with Logic 7 (although we think that might be the sound card) but I also have a 1.67 GHz Powerbook G4 with 512Mb RAM that's not really doing anything. Which should be the best for running Logic 7 on? I have a big external hard drive that I keep all my songs and audio on.

Many thanks,

David

Hi,

Yes, a good audio card could help and good RAM too.
But another thing to do to speed up things is a regular maintenance os the System like useless cahes and system log cleaning, uninstall unused apps, disable startup items that we don't use and so on....

A quick thing to do is to start pushing the shift key (unitl ste system is up) and then restart normally.

About the PowerBook: I think that there'll be little differences in performance but you should upgrade the memory (and I don't know at which cost...).

But why don't you try?

You are free to install Logic Pro 7 on your laptop: in this case the USB dongle is useful because you don't break any rule.

If you want to make a real jump buy a MacMini (but wait 1 or 2 weeks 😉 ) add the external disk and you've done!

cheers
