Very Low Battery, Sad Face Icon, Restarts itself when put into disk mode

I already posted this as a reply in another thread, but other people seem to be having the same exact problem, so I thought it deserved its own topic.

I have a 60gb iPod video. When not connected to anything, the iPod starts up, spins a few times, shows sad iPod face, then the screen fragments/fades to blank.

A few days ago, I got the sad face icon so I tried to restore and reformat the iPod, but when plugged into any charger (both usb and wall charger) it displays "very low battery" and then tries to reboot itself, it repeats this cycle continuously.

I have run diagnostics mode on it, but my version doesn't have HDSacn or HDRW options in diagnostics.

+*When I put it into disk mode, my PC recognizes it as a removable device and it shows up in the device manager, but it is not recognized by iTunes, My Computer, or any of the reformatting software.*+ I have tried to connect it to 2 different Macs, and the iPod is not recognized anywhere on the Macs.

+*After 1-2 minutes of being connected to PC in disk mode, it restarts itself, and is no longer recognized by my computer (PC says removable device has been ejected)*+ Also, when in disk mode (before being connected to computer) it shows the battery as fully charged. Also, last night, I got iTunes to recognize it once, and iTunes said it needed to be restored but before I could restore it, the iPod restarted itself, and I couldn't get iTunes to recognize it again.

I have reset the iPod multiple times, charged in using a wall charger and a usb charger, and made sure the HD and battery were connected.

I'm pretty sure I could figure out the problem if the iPod would stop restarting itself after 1-2 minutes being connected to the computer in disk mode.

Anyone have any idea what could be wrong???????? Or have any tips about what I could do? +My warranty is up, so getting it replaced by Apple is not an option.+

there's quite a few suggestions. i finally just now got mine into disk mode and it's being recognized, but tried it on the rear USB port of my laptop with no other USBs plugged in. i'd already replaced the battery also, but still couldn't get it going. hopefully it's going to work and hope you get yours going too!

Yes, I put it in disk mode. The problem is when I get it into disk mode, it restarts itself (into regular mode) after 1-2 minutes. So I don't have enough time to do anything (restore/reformat) before it resets itself.

Also, for the few minutes it is in disk mode, my Device Manager recognizes it, and the computer recognizes it as an external device. But my "Disk Manager", and "My Computer" don't recognize it at all.
