Command-S doesn't save document. Why?

New Mac user, just got my first MacBook Pro.

One of the strange behaviors I can't quite figure out is why command-s does not save a document no matter what text editor I'm using. This is the same from stickynotes to TextEdit to DreamWeaver and Komodo.

Going to the file menu and clicking "Save" works fine but the keyboard shortcut "command-s" seems to do nothing. The only thing that happens is that the "File" menu item flashes briefly (sometimes).

Other keyboard shortcuts like "Save Page As" (shift-command-s) work perfectly.

What might I have messed up? This has got to be the most important keyboard shortcut that is not working!

Thanks,

Chad
