Photos with the name "null"

I've noticed that some photos I've saved via emails into iPhoto are being named "null" (I see this in the information associated with the photo). I first noticed it when I was trying to move a picture from iPhoto onto my desktop, using drag and drop. When I drop it on the desktop, the preview looks like a blank file and is unusable. Has anyone else had this problem, or know what's happening. I can go back to the email and re-save it, and it saves it correctly, but I can't figure out why it's doing this, in order to prevent it from doing it in the future. Any suggestions anyone?

Thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.

One of the oddities of email is that you can often see files that aren't actually on your computer. I think what's happening here is that you are viewing a file that's on the email server, but when you drag and drop to the desktop there's nothing actually there - no file as such. So you get the blank document. Then when you go back and re-save the file is actually downloaded, and so all works correctly.

What email client are you using? What email service? Is it a POP or IMAP protocol? Regardless of what you're using there should be a command in the menus somewhere to download attachments.
