1280x720 clip does not fit properly

Question

1280x720 clip does not fit properly

Hello. I am trying to edit a video in a 1280x720 timeline. The footage I have is 1280x720. The problem is, there are still black bars at the top and bottom of the Canvas when I edit the clip in. I have been editing in 720p for a while and have never had this problem. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

What codec is this footage? Where did it come from? Do the sequence settings match exactly?

The FCP timeline is set at: 1280x720 29.97 fps DV/NTSC codec.
The clip was exported from Keynote at 1280x720 29.97 H.264 codec.
I am also having the same problem with a clip with the same settings but with the animation codec.

1280x720 DV? DV is only 720x480...period. h.264 is not an editing codec....Animation is a beast.

Convert the 1280x720 to DVCPRO HD...when I do my tutorials, that is the codec I use.

I converted the file but the clip is still not fitting in the timeline. I have no idea why. They are both 1280x720.

Check the Aspect Ratio value in the Motion tab for the clip.

Ok cool. I am getting somewhere. For some reason when I imported it it came in at -12.5 aspect ratio. The problem is now, when I change it to 0 aspect ratio, it stretches out the clip.

Thanks for the tip though. I feel I am making progress with it now.
