iPod nano 3G..does it have speakers?

While someone was looking through my earbudless iPod nano, 3rd generation, they mentioned that they could hear the click wheel clicks even without earbuds, so the device must have some sort of speakers, and if it does, why can't you play music through them? I was wondering the same thing; on the settings, I set my click wheel clicks to play through the speakers, but why can't music be played from the "speakers" as well?
