Choppy 1080p HD Trailers

Does the choppiness show up while loading the movie or after it's completely downloaded?

Are you attempting to play the movie full screen?

What version of Quicktime are you using?

Are there other apps running i.e. Dashboard?

Is this happening on only a certain movie trailer or all of them?

These questions might shed some light on your initial question.

For reference: I played back a 1080p trailer (Wall*E) from Apple's site (completely downloaded) using QT 7.4.5 on my SR 2.2 MBP with also Firefox running and it worked flawlessly.

I have been having the same problem as well and it's driving me nuts. Some trailers work fine, others are just extremely choppy

One that has major issues is the new Speed Racer trailer:

The 720p and 1080p versions both have the same stuttering issue. I have almost nothing else running. I have tried both fullscreen and half-size viewing options, and am using Quicktime 7.4.5 on my MBP (2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM).

I just played back the link for Speed Racer (Cool beans!) on full screen, nearly at complete download (it started about half-way downloaded) and, again, had no choppiness whatsoever. I'm fresh outta of clues as to what could be causing the choppiness for some and not for others.

Just a few more guesses really:

Are you playing back on AC power or battery?

And (and this probably has nothing to do with it but...) I have a pretty fast broadband connection (6Mbps) but what's your download speed like?

Tried the speedRacer trailer, and no matter what version, I get an error message, "this is not a movie file"

I am on a 10MBps wired connection, though I do wait for the whole thing to download before watching. Also, I am on the AC cord (almost always on it), so it's definitely not a power issue.

I did try again just now and got the 720p version to play pretty much OK. It stuttered a tiny bit, but not like before. The 1080p version is still very choppy though.

Do you have Perian installed? I have noticed that the latest version of Perian has significant issues when playing back H264 content. You could try uninstalling it and see if that makes a difference.
