How to Get iTunes to Recognize New Nano?

Hi,
Let me re-phrase an earlier question that got no response (sob):

I have been using a mini for years, but the battery is nearly dead, so my husband gave me his brand new video Nano. When I connect it to my computer, iTunes doesn't recognize it. Any tips would be deeply appreciated.

Do you have the latest version of iTunes installed?
Does the computer have a USB 2 port?
Does your computer have XP Service Pack 2 installed?

Hi,
Thanks for your response.
I finally got it figured out and maybe the answer will help others in my situation.
I was using the same cord from my old iPod to connect the new Nano to the computer. The computer didn't recogniez the new Nano until I switched out to the Nano cord. Duh.

The old cord was a Firewire cord I assume? New iPod no longer support syncing via the Firewire port. You can charge them on old Firewire chargers and cords, but no data transfer. So you have to use the USB cables that come with them instead.
