My iPod only plays one song at a time

I don't store any music on my iPod - only music videos. They all play fine, and they're stored as properly tagged music video files under Menu->Videos->Music Videos. After I first synced them from my PC, I noticed that they also all appear under Menu->Music as songs. I can play them all just fine, either by selecting one through Menu->Videos (in which case it plays as a video) or by selecting one though Menu->Music, in which case it plays as a regular song with a little picture displayed instead of the video.

So far, so good.

The only problem is, I can only play one song at a time. I navigate through the menu, select either a song or a video, and the iPod will play that just fine, get to the end, and then bring up the menu again.

How can I get it to play the one I select, and then just play other random songs? It makes no difference whether or not 'shuffle' is selected, it still only plays one then stops. Also, putting the songs in a playlist doesn't seem to make any difference.

Any advice gratefully received.

Are you sure you don't have Shuffle on? There are a couple of ways to Shuffle on a 5th Gen. iPod. You can't simply choose Shuffle Songs from the Main Menu and shuffle the entire library...or you can go to Settings > Shuffle and choose Songs or Albums and apply that to any playlist you select. The behavior you describe is what happens when Shuffle is turned on and items are set to Skip When Shuffling (an option found on the tracks under Get Info). If Shuffle is on, you should see the little green crossed arrows in the upper right of the iPod window.

Pick a video you want to be played that way. Select "Get Info"; select the "Options" tab. Uncheck "Skip when Shuffling" If needed, you can select all the videos in one go, get info for all of them at the same time and then set the "Skip when shuffling" field to NO.

Thanks very much to both of you - your helpful comments solved the problem! You're right, the songs were marked as "Skip on shuffle". I changed that, and now it works perfectly.
