Configuring Terminal select-by-word characters

Hello, I am wondering if there's a way to configure the terminal's select-by-word character string. By 'select-by-word' I mean the highlighting of characters that occurs when you double click within the terminal window.

That is the basic OS behavior. I don't think it has anything to do with Terminal. What is it you want to do?
