Renumbering multiple songs

I sometimes import songs as wave files. I Tunes picks the file name as the track name, but does not number the songs. Is there a method to make I Tunes assign track numbers to multiple songs based on their order in the library or some other ordering.

I guess I should have been clearer. When importing .wav files, I add the tag information, which iTunes will save, then convert them into m4a. The .wav file names start with the track number, so the .wav files display in the correct order when sorted by name and after conversion to m4a. At some point in this process I would like to add track numbers in bulk.

There's no way to apply track numbers to a batch of songs, but you can make short work of adding them one at a time by using the Next button in the Info window. After typing "1" on the first track, click Next. Your cursor remains in the Track field so you can type "2" and click Next, and so on. Very quickly you'll have all the tracks in the album numbered.

Now you can select all of them and apply the total number of tracks if you wish, so that the library will show "Track N of N."

If only iTunes had an option in the playlists like, "Renumber tracks as shown."
