Scanning with HP Laserjet 3380

Has anyone been able to get the HP Laserjet 3380 to work for scanning under 10.5?

I've been waiting eons for an update from HP... no news on that. There must be a workaround in the meantime.

Anyone had success?

Did You try to install the latest driver for the Laserjet 3050. It is version 8.2 of the HP Software. For the Laserjet 3015 it did work because it seems to be somehow the same hardware as with 3050.

If You did install the 8.1 driver for the device just install (do not delete or uninstall the old drivers) the new version over that drivers. The HP installer application will ask you, what device to install. I do not know the successor of the 3380, maybe it is the 3390 or 3392.

Since installing the new software my Laserjet can print, scan and fax again with Leopard.

I just heard from HP. Thought I'd post their response in case anyone else is having problems...

"I do not think that HP is going to produce a software for this 3380 AIO, this is the first generation of AIO printers and we have in the market the third generation so this printers are a little bit old to create a new software, in the 10.5 OS the 3380 will be just print only"

Hi Eric,

did You try the 3390 installation. Just go to the HP Setup Assistant.app and try it with the 3390. In my case, the installer did put a folder in the Image Capture folder. The folder is named HP Laserjet Scan DS.ds. If you open it there is another folder: Resources and there Capabilities and there is a file called HP LaserJet3380.plist. So I think you should be able to scan and fax if you choose the Laserjet 3390 for the installer. Because the file is dated with march 17. 2008, I think that HP has those drivers but they do not publish to make you buy a new one.

Greetings,

This may not be the best solution, but if there is no other way, I believe "Vuescan" will work with that device. You can download it and give it a try, if nothing else.

I use it with my high end HP and Epson multifunction devices because it's a lot nicer interface and there are more possibilities with it.

Good Luck,
M.
