Unable to update macbook EFI Firmware

Hi,

Recently, Apple released a new EFI firmware update for MacBook. I am having an issue of not able to update the firmware of my MacBook. Currently, my Boot ROM Version is MB11.0061.B03. When I try to install the update, it gives me an error message saying that "This computer does not need this update". Is there any way I can update the firmware? Why does it say that I don't need to update my computer?

Please advice.

B03 I'd think you were one step ahead. Anyway if you are still knocking your brains on this one, then read the link readme on the apple.com/downloads site about that particular update.

It suggests to keep trying but in your case, I don't think so. It also reads to not have anything external connected except Apple mouse, monitor and keyboard.

Did you receive notification via the automatic update or did you download it yourself?
Never, never simply download a firmware or other update unless you have either been notified or really know that it applies to your computer.
Installing an incorrect firmware update can be devastating.
Be sure you have handy the firmware restore CD you created before attempting this.

I too have the same problem. The upgrade downloads, installs and I get the message that the installation is successful, but when verifying the Boot ROM version it's still MBP31.0070.B02 not MBP31.0070.B07 as announced

The installation only downloads the updater program in the Application folder. You then need to run the updater from the Applications folder, then shut down from the dialog box in the updater asking you to shut down. When it shuts down, power it up by holding down the power button until you hear a series of loud beeps. From that point it's in the process of updating the firmware, followed by a normal startup.

My first mistake was thinking that the EFI update would complete after Software Update loaded it and I rebooted. I probably didn't have to do it, but I manually downloaded the EFI 1.2 update. Then I tried running the EFI updater program, but made the mistake of shutting down from the drop-down menu. It's a series of specific steps that need to be taken in order to properly update the firmware.

I'm having the same issue with my MacBook Air. Every time I run software update, it tells me I need to install the specific MacBook Air EFI Firmware Update 1.0. I do so, but the firmware version never changes and I get the install suggestion every time I boot up Software Update.

Grrr!

It needs further intervention from the user. The EFI updater is a program, and Software Update simply downloads the program and places it in your Applications/Utilities folder. You'll need to read the instructions.
