Preview highlighting one column

Preview highlighting one column

Is there anyway to get preview to allow you to highlight just one column of text? If you drag with the mouse trying to get two lines within a column you also get the text in the column beside it. Highlighting with a rectangle is alright but not quite perfect. Any help is appreciated.

iMac G5, Mac OS X (10.5.2)

Try holding down the Option key when you select the text.

Well that does let you select text in a rectangle.. but if I want my highlight to start in the middle of a sentence I'm still stuck doing a two step process.. there must be an easier way.

Adobe Reader is "better," but nobody really knows what that means… Preview is prettier and more intuitive. I'd also love the ability to highlight in just one column.

Though I have to admit, AR doesn't even have this problem.
