IPOD NANO SYNCING PROBLEM

I having a problem syncing my ipod. I just donloaded new songs and i plugged my ipod into the computer and it won;t sync. i have all the songs checked and i tried unchecking them and checking them again and they still won't sync. what should i do?

I have been having the same problems--I download new tv shows and check them to be synced, then when I plug my iPod in, I lose the ones I already had on my iPod and only get the new things. How do you sync the new stuff without losing the stuff you already have on your iPod? I thought once you download something and check it to be synced, it stays on your iPod!
