All I can recommend is going to the article Jeff posted: and then clicking on the "it wasn't helpful" link on the bottom. Then in the feedback box, make sure you put a link to this thread and bring this to their attention.

Okay, customer service got back with me and refunded the episodes in question and offered 2 free downloads. iTunes is working on the problem, didn't say what the problem was, but will be trying to correct it. Does anyone get the sync error when running the diagnostic test? I do, but it gives no further details, it just gives a report with the option to save it to clipboard.

I've been trying to report a problem via the Purchase History page of my iTS account, but it keeps giving me a session timeout screen, then won't let me log back in to retry. What's the best way to get to customer service about this?

I wasn't surprised to see that none of the proposed fixes worked. I too suspect that the latest release of iTunes "broke" the playback of purchased content. I'll have to keep a look out for an update to iTunes or the iPod software, or both.

Are you receiving an error? I am doing manual syncing between the iPod and iTunes. I haven't received any errors; the new content just won't play on the iPod.

What diagnostics did you say you were running?

This seems to be a recurring problem.

Episode 1 of "Pushing daisies". The video appears to start but just get black screen and a few seconds later it returns to Menu.

I've reset ipod and de-authorized account but without success. I've also reported problem on download purchase history.

    Any other suggestion are welcome.

I've encountered the same condition w/my 30gig. I purchased 2 TV episodes (different shows) one works, one does not. I clicked on "report a problem" in the email receipt from Apple. Got a response a day or so later. They had posted a fresh copy of the problematic episode for me to download. I did that with the same results. I have since restored the iPod and reinstalled the episode, no change. I copied the file to my iBook G4 running iTunes 7.6.1 and installed to the iPod from that machine, same thing. Just generated a reply off the original email response indicating all the above actions/results and am awiating a reply. Will post back w/solution?

I'm having the exact same problem. I purchased Pushing Daisies on monday and it's doing the same thing.
I contacted iTunes and they gave me 1 video free, but it still doesn't help me.
I've tried resetting it, but I don't want to reset my entire iPod.

I am having the same problem. I had the older version of itunes and it wouldn't play either. I just upgraded my iTunes and it still didn't work. I got two episodes from Vh1--> Rock of Love SEASON FINALE and Flavor of Love. I would like to see the last episode of the season APPLE,inc. especially if I purchased the whole season thru iTunes or my money back. If anyone has an answer, please help?

Yes, redownloading the affected episodes does not have any positive outcome, based on what I've seen from others in the same situation. With any luck we'll get this sorted out.

If the files weren't "DRM'ed," we might have other methods at our disposal. But for now, we're stuck waiting for Apple to fix things.

I am also having this problem with a tv show I downloaded right after I downloaded the most recent version of itunes.

Could this be some back-handed way for Apple to persuade us with 5/5.5 gen to upgrade to either the newer "classic" iPod(almost an oxymoron), or the iPhone/iTouch line or any of the other newer iPod derivatives? I haven't seen this problem on any of the newer models' boards. Frankly, it's got me seriously thinking about cowboyin' up and getting a "classic".

Seriously. We're ALL having this issue.
Restoring our iPods is NOT the fix.
They need to check the logs an discover that this is a world-wide phenomenon and fix the file format on these shows.
PLUS - I want my money back for a few episodes.

    This is a good idea.
Can I downgrade my iTunes version to the previous one?

I don't believe it's the latest version of iTunes that causes the problem. I did not have it installed when it first happened to me. I installed it to try to fix the problem, actually.
