simple fade out at end of project

All I need to do is a basic all track fade at the end of a song. I have both audio & midi content so a cross-fade won't work. I have tried to create a master track in the arrange window, (which I can do) but I'm unable to create a node to drag down. What am I missing? And please, explain it as though you were instructing an eight-year-old.

Hi,

the answer is simple, but not "logical". It took me a while to figure this one out the first time....
Go to the mixer, and set the automation from the Stereo Out channel strip from "off" to "read" (it's the rectangular button just above the VU meter; see Help > Logic 8 Express User Manual, page 577 for a picture).
Now you should see the Master Track appear in the arrange window, so that you can draw automation (volume fade out) into it.

Jaap

hello..now take that thumb out of your mouth and pay attention...good...open Logic up and click on the 'mixer' button at the bottom of the main arrange window and you should see all the lovely little mixer knobs and stuff...don't they look pretty? now find the 'master' track which will probably be on the far left of the different tracks you already have...on the 'master' mixer right-click (or ctrl-click) on the name of the track located at the bottom of each track setting and in a not so nice pukey yellow colour and select from the ugly pop up menu 'create/select arrange track'..if the horrid menu shows this option as greyed out it means that Mr Logic has already put a nice shiny master track in the arrange window for you to play with (wasn't that nice boys and girsl)...now look along the top left of the main arrange window between the auto-zoom icon and the set locators icon is a pretty little button that is called 'automation'. click on this...now all the tracks in your arrange window will look a bit different..see? good...depending on your settings there will be a long button underneath each track name that will say 'pan' in a lovely green colour or 'volume' in a jolly bright yellow...look for your 'master track' and see which one it has...if it is 'pan' click on this button and choose 'volume' using the nasty mean pop up menu...naughty logic bad logic..when you have 'volume' chosen you will see a stright black line in the track itself that runs from start to finish...click on this line and it will turn yellow...it will also put a little spot on the line and display the db...if you click anywhere on this line..more and more funny little spots will appear...you can now drag this line up and down between spots and make a crazy zig zag pattern if you like...no...don't do it now...just wait...now if youclick on a spot again you can move the spot up and down or you can delete it...so all you do is find where you want to start the naughty little fade and click on the line...then find where you want to end the fade and click on the line again and drag the spot down until the funny little sleeping 8 pattern appears. That means mr sound has gone to bed and won't be playing with mr logic anymore...poor baby...now to stop you clicking on any more spots on any more tracks...click the cheeky little 'automation' button one more time and the funny yellow lines and words all disappear! IT'S MAGIC ISN'T IT?...now you can click on the master track in the mixer window and where the cute likkle wikkle button that is above the nice polite volume slider that will probably say 'off'...click on this and another horrid popup menu (BOOO!) manu appears and you need to select 'read' and it;s a relaxing happy green colour...that means that Mr Logic will not ignore Mr Automation and use the funny settings you did on that line a bit before...now when you bounce the littel track you will see Mr Volulme slider on themaster Track go up and down ALL BY ITSELF! AMAZING!...have a nice day and tuck your shirt in.
