CD won't spin when importing ... CD image problem.

My iBook won't spin ring when importing from some CD's.

Iv searched the forum, but can't find anything related to my problem. I have problems sometimes with some CD's that won't spin right when inserted into my iBook. 99% of my CD's will work, but for some reason the other just skip, jump, grind and cluck and not spin smoothly when first inserted into my drive. Eventually to be spit out by the drive.

The CD's are all new and undamaged.

The only common thing that this CD's have is that the colour, font or images on the CD's are more vivid than most CD's. Anything from Chris Issak to French CD's.

I just tried to download a "Mylene Farmer" remixes CD and it does the same thing. The drive won't accept it and spits it out. The one thing that the CD has in that the name "Mylene Farmer" is in 3-D.

How can I get my drive to accept CD's where the label or image is more vivid or outstanding than a normal CD?

Thx for any replys

I'm not a mac owner, but I just bought an ipod and was having the same problem with a cd. No scratches, but it sounded like the drive was having trouble keeping the disc at the proper speed. This was the Richard Cheese Best of album. The image isn't especially vivid, but it does seem to have a little different texture than my others.

After looking online and only finding your post, I got creative. I covered the back of the disc in masking tape. I made sure to line up the pieces parallel, so as to only have one layer, and I trimmed it around the very outside with a razor knife (OUTSIDE the data area!) and around the very inside of the hole. Anyway, it spun up and read just perfectly, so give it a try!

Thanks for the message. Iv had a couple of new optic drives in my iBook and it's the same issue with them all. Seems that somehow the decoration of the CD label sometimes prohibits it from importing as it tries to read the CD. Not sure I could tape the CD's like you have since there isn't a lot of space on the slot on the iBook to insert. I have a few CD's that have extras added like booklets, video or double sided that the CD is thicker than normal and they won't load either because the space for insert isn't to big.

Crazy, I bought another copy of No.4 today, and it just burned fine. The cd label -feels- different on this copy too.

To jump around the thread a little -

Diane: I'm not familiar with the DualDisc format, but as far as I know these are just standard audio cd's. They play just fine in my truck, or MOST anywhere else.

Limnos: I was also considering trying some of those disc skins, ( http://www.d-skin.com/ ) only put it on the back of the cd instead of the play side. Has anyone tried these for anything?

The DualDiscs have audio on one side and video on the other. They are thicker than regular CDs and none of my slot-loaders will even read them. Just chunk, chunk and spit it out. I have to take them to work to a tray-loading CD drive to rip them. They do play fine on our home stereo and car CD players. A lot of people have had issues with the DualDiscs and having multiple computers that will not read them.
