SCP TERMINAL, DIRECTORY NOT FOUND OR FILE NOT FOND..

Hello I'm new to mac and find it a little different from windows with terminal. I'm trying to upload a file to a server using terminal with scp.

-bash-3.00$ scp Users/andrewkemp/Desktop/index.html web
cp: cannot stat `Users/andrewkemp/Desktop/index.html': No such file or directory
-bash-3.00$

What is the route to the desktop because its obviously not seeing it? Someone help please??? 🙂

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.5.1)

You can use "~" to get to your home directory and just type "~/Desktop".

Your problem was that you omitted the first '/' in front of users. In UNIX, absolute paths must start with '/'.

Hopefully you just typed "web" to spare us form the scp details. Otherwise, that isn't going to work or you just need to use "cp" instead.

Didn't work, it has to be really simple but I just don't know how.

I did what you said ~ and it didn't do anything see below:

lion ece70132 107# ssh uXXXXX@b144.raq1.ee.port.ac.uk

-bash-3.00$ ls
Network Trash Folder Private web
-bash-3.00$ scp ~Desktop/index.html web
cp: cannot stat `~Desktop/index.html': No such file or directory
-bash-3.00$

All I want to do is to get a index.html file which is located on my desktop on my pc to the server.

ok I forgot that / but here its not finding it from my local machine, it is still looking on the server for it:

-bash-3.00$ scp ~/Desktop/index.html web
cp: cannot stat `/home/.sites/143/site2/.users/128/uXXXX/Desktop/index.html': No such file or directory
-bash-3.00$

Maybe you should specify that then.

scp wicked18@mymac:/Users/wicked18/Desktop/index.html web
