exs24: how to make sample cut itself

I want to use my keyboard like an mpc. I loaded my break into the exs24 but when I hit the pad I have 2 options.
1. hold the pad down until I want it to stop playing.
2. hit the pad once and overlap if I hit it again.

when I used fruity loops I had the option to make the sample cut itself. so I could hit the pad once and when I hit it again it would start over again without overlapping itself. Is there a way I can do that on logic?

"Poly. = 1" doesn't do the job, becouse then only one voice can be triggered at once. So when my 1st sample is still playing and I want to trigger 2nd one (e.x. drum), the 2nd one will "eat" 1st one. "Poly. = 2,3,4..." is not good neither.

What I really want is that each sample should "cut itself" when triggered again and start playing from the beginning (without affecting other playing samples)

Any ideas?

I think you have to go to the edit window of the exs24 and select the samples you want to trigger the way you want and uncheck the " 1 shot" slot.

You have to go to the 'edit window', build a new group or take an existing one, assign the zone of the sample to the group and then chose in the group options: 'Voices: 1" instead of 'Voices: Max'. Then it will cut itself if it is triggered again.

The problem I am having with this is that when I load my own sample in the EXS24 and trigger the sound with my keyboard (it works fine) but when I play different keys I would expect the key of the sample to change, but it sounds like it is the tempo or pitch being changed (not sure if I explained that properly). Middle C is used to trigger the sample as is, but any other key sounds bad!
I assume with an MPC when you load in a sample you can use the pads to play the sample but you can play the sample as different notes (like a real keyboard) with out this tempo problem.
Is this the case? Does anyone know a solution to this?
