change the name of the Trash

I would like to change the name of the Trash, I do not know if this will cause it problems or if it can be done...

Copy /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/InfoPlis t.strings to any folder.
Open it in any text editor.
Change "Trash" on the first line to suit your needs.
Save.
Copy the backup to it's original location. Keep the backup as you will need to replace the file in English.lproj after some software updates.
Open the Terminal (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app) and type killall Dock

there's no way I'm typing that lot.

what about copy and paste? is that too hard?

Even if it does what I want I should think its surroupticious "killall" ~thanks but no thanks

lol. All "killall Dock" does is restart Dock. You can log out/in if you are so afraid of it.

What you want can only be accomplished by the kind of a harmless hack semicolons suggests.

No. OS X will refer to the actual folder ("~/.Trash"), not what it appears to be called. Simply changing your language would change the name of the Trash that appears in the Dock. It is perfectly harmless to edit strings files, although (as noted in the above link) software updates may change it back. It is foolproof, but not 100% future-proof.
I didn't mention it above, but after doing this you should run Repair Permissions, just to make OS X think everything is OK.

Thanks, it worked like you said! Do you know how to change the name of the Finder icon as well as System Preferences? oh and the Download folder ..in fact everything one's not supposed to tamper with.

I can guess that it would be along the same route and I might be able to work it out but there's nothing like the right way first time is there...

I'm thinking along the lines of - change something and the system looks for it and it doesn't appear - kind of thing.
I know it's OK for the trash. I'm betting that it won't work for absolutely everything though. Like the other advice says though. Make a back up of the file you are modding before modding it.
