MIME Plug-In

When I go to any website with a video or even some pictures I can not view the video or pictures. This problem happens on almost every website I go too...youtube, myspace, yahoo, and many others. I receive this error message when i go to a website that does not work.

The page “YouTube - King Of The Bounce - The Beginning” has content of MIME type “application/x-shockwave-flash”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed.

Anybody know how to fix this problem?
Thank you very much

Hi

Welcome to Apple Discussions

Given you have 10.5.2 installed, I'd be surprised the Flash plug-in was not installed on your system. Might be a case of an unchecked preference setting. To check...

Go to your Safari Preferences>Security panel. Make sure the 4 boxes in WebContent are selected. If any of the first 3 were unselected, you would have problems with viewing certain types of content. Specific to Flash, the first box (enable plug-ins) would likely be unchecked if you are seeing that error message.

took me to the macromedia website where i downloaded it, and it stopped working after that. And I am not using any 3rd part Safari items .

Strange. You ought to be DL Flash from an Adobe site.

Let's take a step-back. Go to your Finder: HD>Library>Internet Plug-ins folder. You ought to have these two files: Flash Player.plugin] and flashplayer.xpt. If not, check the User Account Library>Internet Plug-ins folder. If no go there, then you can download the most recent version of Flash from this Adobe site. After the install is complete, Safari automatically opens confirming the plug-ins was installed.

Next, quit Safari. Then go to your Utilities folder>Disk Utility. Open the app., highlight your HD on the left, then "repair permissions". When complete, restart Safari and try a Flash site.

Hi there
I have the same problem...I was following your directions and the difference is that I have these two files http://b]Flash Player.plugin and flashplayer.xpt and when I download flash it dosen't actually complete it and it brings me back to their website to download it again...where do I go from here? Here is the error message that I get...

The page “Facebook | Inbox” has content of MIME type “application/x-shockwave-flash”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed.

Hopefully you can help me out...I have been trying for a week now...

Thanks

I am having the same problem with Safari and Mail. It doesn't recognizes the attachment and a blue box appears. So I tried your solution to find that those files were already existing in the /library/internet plugin/ . So I just ran the repair disk from the disk utility and tried again, to see that it wasn't fixed. So I deleted those files and repeated the steps you menationed, still its not fixed. Any clue?
