Apple please fix OS X Leopard server permissions/privilges issues!!

What applications are they trying to save from? There are a number of known issues with Microsoft Word for example.

I assume you have filed a bug report?

I have activated the ACL`s on the shares. Now it works perfect für mac users. But not with windows users. On windows the problem stil exists..

I think it is a bug.

I am experiencing the exact same issues with Windows XP users and Leopard Server, and have particularly noted MS Excel 2003 files as problematic. Very keen to hear any thoughts on this. Thanks.

nice to here this 😉 It seems we all have the same problems with posix, acl and leopard server.
In my case not only MS Excel Files seems to make problems. InDesign Files too.

Maybe this is really a problem of Leopard 10.5.2. Server and I really hope that the 10.5.3. Update will fix this issue. Tomorrow I will have more time and will post my problem with details in the forum. Maybe you can check in and tell me if you have the same problems.

All document types are affected as far as I can tell. We use Adobe, Apple, Microsoft & Solidworks apps and all of these have been impacted. We have filed a bug report and urge others to do as well. It's not safe to assume that will be fixed in the next update, especially if only a few report it.

Mike - I will be sure to check in tomorrow. I am interested to test if files other than Excel cause problems when I am back in the office and will update accordingly.

This is so frustrating! Yesterday, one of my Windows users reorganised one of the main folder structures we use, and now no one can perform any action requiring write permissions in these directories! So - no saving to any of these folders or subfolders etc. This is unbelievable.

When acessing our Leopard Server (running on a Mac Pro) I am unable to ascertain anything that I can change (although I am completely new to running a server) to fix this. It appears that when I am logged in as the sysadmin I can view the applied permissions when I 'Get Info' on the folder causing problems, so they are set to:

Everyone: Read & write
Workgroup: Custom

In File Sharing System Preferences, the shared drive that contains these directories indicates that all users can read & write. But they can't!

If I can't find a fix for this then I think my server is going to be unusable within the day.

What I do to resolve these issues every so often (when they crop up), is to turn off sharing for the directory, restart the server, then re-enable the share. It has worked for me.

Michael: I just tried this (switched off all file sharing in Server Preferences, rebooted, switched file sharing on again), but it doesn't seem to have resolved the absence of write permissions to other users in the diretories I am having problems with.
