This series of steps works perfectly. It is from another web page.

1. Make sure your phone has been synchronized in the version of iTunes you are using.
2. Restore your phone. (in itunes in the summary tab click the restore button)
3. After JUST the phone settings are restored, DO NOT restore your personal information from a back-up. It will prompt you for this, don't close this screen just hold off on it for now. Disconnect the iPhone and take a photo. The photo should now appear in the camera roll, as usual.
4. Reconnect the phone and import the photo into iPhoto; do NOT delete it from the iPhone. (after importing it choose "keep originals")
5. NOW go back to itunes and restore your personal information from a back-up.

Now your iphone will have everything on it, and picture taking works again.

I am having a similar problem with my iPhone. Sometimes i can take pictures and view my albums ad everything is fine, but sometimes i click either icon for my photos or the camera, and it moves all the icons and begins to open the app, but then it goes back to the home screen. the only way i can fix this is by importing all photos into iphoto an deleting originals. but i have to do this every 2 or 3 photos which is very annoying since i use my camera to upload to flickr, etc.

I looked up discussion on the Iphone camera and found this post. My Iphone is doing the same thing. I followed your directions and it worked, only to revert to the problem the next time I tried to use it. I tried to import the pics and the error message came up saying that I could not import because I am missing a file. Any help out there?

Seth's solution has worked for me. Had to follow steps exactly as stated, then they work to get the images back again. That's just weird how the camera will snap the photo, give us an empty rectangle in the album. When clicked, the empty thumbnail disappears and no more photo.

Something for the Apple tech's: I know what I did to cause this. STR: Plugged in the Iphone to the cradle. In MS Windows, on the desktop I opened the MyComputer. In MyComputer I opened the Apple Iphone link. Selected all photos, Copied & pasted them to a local folder. Then selected MOST OF THEM and hit the delete key. There were a few I left in there that were more recently taken. My suspicion is when we delete the images manually while leaving some behind, messes up the image cache used internally on the Iphone.

It looks like I'm not the only one. That is good and bad to know.

So has anyone figured this out yet? I tried everything short of jail breaking the iphone ... saved for final option. There are several other issues with this phone to maybe they are connected. BlueTooth is not to handy now. That went second.

This phone gets babied so I am falling over finding out what is up with this issue. More than anything this is annoying. How does One go about getting ahold of someone at  and getting some real advise.

I followed that instruction list to a "T" and the only REAL way I can see that working is "IF" when you are done you leave at LEAST one picture on the Camera Roll. Other than that if there is not at least one picture in there, I had to go through that whole process again .. and again .. and again .. you get the point.

I'm calling the Genius Bar tomorrow and seeing if they can shed some real light on this. UNLESS someone knows something I don't know!!!?!??!??!

I went to Genius Bar last week and they replaced my old phone for a brand new one after I complained about the problem with the camera. It worked smoothly for a couple of days but now I'm facing the exact same problem... I wonder if their solution will be replacing my iPhone again when I visit them next time. I'll make sure to let you guys know next Friday, when I get back from Genius Bar.

I just bought me a MacBook to replace my stupid Dell that stopped allowing me to download from iTunes (including 1.3 and 1.4). I love my iPhone so much I wanted a computer that would heighten my user experience.... much to my dismay, this seems to have caused problems!!! I am having this same issue. Luckily I have my first one on one training at the Apple Store on Monday, but I make wedding cakes and desperately need the iPhone pictures to work so I can have a picture of today's cakes. Someone had mentioned they would check if everything comes back... if I do restore, will all my notes and everything be restored?

Please confirm that I won't lose things if I do a system restore?!
