I use "check spelling as I type" in Mail and most other apps. Suddenly, it stopped working. No red lines, and when I tried checking manually it said all was correct. Strange thing is, when I change dictionary over to Canadian English (for example), the thing works again. It seems only the English dictionary stopped functioning.
Does anyone have a clue what might have happened? I've tried resetting all prefs, but still won't work under English dictionary.
Can anyone point me to the location of the (American) English dictionary file, as only my English dictionary has stopped functioning? I'd like to see if it is corrupt or if it has been modified. Until then I'll have to use either the Canadian English or the British English dictionary.
I'm having the same problem! 😟
Is there a solution?
OS X 10.4.4 Safari, e-mail, TextEdit, Pages all refuse to spell check! (Perhaps this is a new feature. 😉
In fact, pressing "Apple+;" doesn't do a spell check either in all of the above applications, thank god for MS-Word (it works).
I restarted and it solved the issue.... for a while. Now, I have again the same behavior. The spell checking doesn't work at all. It seems it is because of the English dictonnary that accept any spelling.
However, if you switch to ie British English, the spell checker will work again... but of course, it is extremely annoying when we use two different languages in your everyday life...
Anyone has an idea how to reset the preference of the spell checking?
Cheers,
Gam.
