Ctrl key does not work after a few seconds

For some reason, starting today I think, my ctrl key does not work. For instance, when I'm in Firefox, I usually use ctrl-tab to move between tabs, but it does not work. Hitting the num lock key on then off again makes the ctrl key work for a few more seconds, and then it will not work anymore. Anyone know why this is happening?
