Not true.
Right click and choose "Save linked file as..." allows you to rename the file prior to downloading it.
Be careful not to change the file extension, however.
QuickTimeKirk, not all download file links are direct links to the file you want to download.
Some force you through a blank interstitial page, and others use php scripts to access the file. In these cases in Safari for Windows, 'Save As' is useless.
Yep, this is exactly my experience as well. Would be helpful if Safari could have a pop-up asking me where to save the file and what to call it.
At the moment when I right-click I can only hope that the current page is the final landing page for the download and I can only download to my default location which happens to be the desktop. One cannot decide on the spot that you wanna change your download location.
