Help! - Installing stuck at "2 minutes remaining"

I have a Mac Mini Intel running 10.4.11, and I'm trying to install Leopard, I chose the Archive and Install option - all started going ok with the "time remaining" bar filling up - but now its stuck at "time remaining: About 2 minutes" and has been like that for over 2 hours! I can hear the disk still turning in the drive - but what should I do - keep waiting - or cancel the install - and if so, how do I cancel the install - I don't want to risk messing up the installation!

Any help appreciated!

What stage has the installation reached? If this is in the optimisation you can do a forced shutdown and restart the computer and the installation should be OK. You shouldn't have to wait this long but maybe something has happened since you posted. If so, let's know.

If it's still not showing progress I recommend a forced shutdown anyway. Try restarting. If a restart works check the About this Mac to find the working OS. If it's still 10.4.11 Do a Disk Utility Repair Disk by restarting with the original instal dvd (hold the c Key until the Apple logo shows). You will get the choose language. Do so and on the next screen Choose Tools & Disk Utility from the menu bar. Also do Repair permissions. If either of this shows repairs run them a second time and again until you get no repairs needed or unable to repair. If the latter report back.

If it doesn't restart restart from the Original instal disk and proceed as previously. Try a restart. If unsuccessful:
Restart from the Leopard instal disk and re-run the whole instal.

thanks for the reply - I shut down the machine and restarted it - still with the disk in - and tried another reinstallation which is happening now. I didn't have any option really - as the only screen that came up when I restarted was the installation page with no option of quitting.

I'm not sure what stage it got to, it was the first progress bar with "Installing Mac OSX on the volume xxx" and the progress bar stuck with 2 mins remaining.

My only worry is that when I went to do the install again - my HD memory had gone down (obviously) and that if it freezes again I wont be able to do a 3rd try as it'll show up with not enough memory left - I had 26.5GB to start with and this time had only 15GB left.
