FCP won't capture from Canon Elura 85?

When I load up FCP 6 with my Canon Elura 85 connected via Firewire and go to Log and Capture, it says that it cannot initialize the video deck. Also, Easy Setup seems to do little to nothing so perhaps that's set incorrectly? I currently have it set to:

SeqPreset: DV NTSC 48kHz
CapPreset: DV NTSC 48kHz
Device Ctrl Preset: Firewire NTSC Basic

With these settings and my camera properly connected and detected by System Profiler, I can't seem to Log and Capture or in fact do anything with my camera and FCP 😟

Any help would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks,
-Eric

Welcome to the discussions.

Canon's Elura line has a long history of bad communication via FW. Do you have ANYTHING else on your FW bus? Like a drive? On ANY of your FW ports? (They're all the same bus).

If so, try disconnecting the drive (after, of course, ejecting it) and see if FCP can talk to the deck.

If it can and you want to use FW drives while capturing from the Elura, the generally used fix is to add a cheap FW card to talk to the camcorder.
