Using webcam to do a 24/7 live feed

Hey guys. I'm looking for a software program that will let you use a webcam to set up a live feed 24/7, and somehow be able to log in from another computer to view the feed at any given time (perhaps through the internet or something?). Do you guys know of any programs that will let you do this? I tried a demo of BTV pro and its cool, but im not sure if you can do any kind of accessing a feed from another comp.

Hello Clshannon1

Take a look at this list of Some Applications You Can Use With iSight. See the links for each individual application of interest for their features, system requirements, and terms of use.

Most of these apps will work with webcams other than iSight, too. Instructions on how to use each application comes from its documentation, so select the app that best balances the features you need against the ease of use you want.

Depending on what you want to do with your "live feed", applications from the Webcam Apps or surveillance or Nanny cam sections will probably do what you want with the least setup effort. If your specific use is for security monitoring, one of these apps may meet your needs:

EvoCam

SecuritySpy

KeyCamX

For professional-level webcasting of live streaming video, Apple's QuickTime Broadcaster and QuickTime Streaming Server can do it all. However, their advanced features may require some study unless you are an experienced user.

Yes, I do this. I have a wireless internet camera at home that looks over my front yard / driveway. I can access this via any computer at home over my wireless network, over the internet from any computer in the world, and also via Safari on my iPhone.

The web camera I use is the TrendNet TV IP100W -- no fancy pan/tilt/zoom, but it only cost $100. I was not able to get streaming video using the Trendnet software / web-browser on the iPhone (it worked fine over any computer). I could only get a still image on the iPhone.

I can get streaming video on the iPhone using software called EvoCam for the Mac. EvoCam has its own built in web-server, so you can use a normal webcam hooked up to a computer or a wireless network camera. With EvoCam I can set-up motion sensor boxes anywhere on video. When the motion sensor is triggered, I can have it record video on my computer or send me an e:mail with a still photo. I will set a motion sensor for the front walk and I get an e:mail when the FedEx man makes a delivery. It is also great to keep an eye on the dog when we are not home or check to see the weather at home.

I can also set up multiple cameras with EvoCam and see them all at once. I have a Logitech Quickcam 4000 connected to an older eMac to monitor a room inside the house along with the Trendnet webcam monitoring the front yard.
