Safari Posix error: cannot allocate memory (NSPOSIXErrorDomain:12)... HELP

I'm in the office now currently using wifi. At first i thought i was having internet errors, but i was able to open chat windows and my .mac mailbox but whenever i try to open SAFARI this page pops out

Safari can't open the page "http://apple.com/". The error was "POSIX error: Cannot allocate memory" (NSPOSIXErrorDomain:12)Please choose Report Bugs to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.

I tried to restart my Safari, as well as my laptop, but this window kept popping up. i even tried several other websites. I read in a previous topic that i connect it to an ethernet connection, but that attempt failed as well.

I recently updated my Safari to 3.1.1 last April 17. this is the first time i encountered this problem since the update.

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Hi

Welcome to Apple Discussions

That error usually points to a Proxy setting problem. The proxy setting is found in your System Preferences>Network>Proxies panel. You'll need to establish the Proxy setting before gaining access to the WiFi.

On the other side, make sure you either disable the Proxy setting at home, or better yet, set up a separate location in the Network Panel specifically for work. This way you can easily go back/forth between Office/Home without a lot of fuss.

My safari error but firefox is fine. Thats how I am writing this email on the same machine.

Safari can’t open the page “ http://www.google.co.nz/”. The error was: “POSIX error: Cannot allocate memory” (NSPOSIXErrorDomain:12) Please choose Report Bugs to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.

Why does firefox work and not safari? Also itunes Version 3.1.1 (4525.18) will open and then close immediately. And the help menu doesn't work.

Any ideas, in layman's terms?
