ipod classic battery drains just after 3months use

hi..i bought an ipod classic 80g this january and its been perfect until just this month when i noticed that my battery's draining a bit faster..i tested it before to see if it does reach up to 30 hrs playtime for music..just 2 days ago i tsted it again..charge if for 4-6 hrs on my laptop and had it play songs continously..on the 12th hour mark my battery icon's all red and and i it's suppose to keep playing for like 20 more hours right?..fyi my ipod is updated to 1.1.1. brought it to apple and they said they still have to test it and still unsure if they will make a replacement..im just thinking, i've been using the ipod for like only 3 months and now the battery would only last 12-13 hours of playtime(no vid just music/mp3s)..im new at ipod and just wanted to know if any1 experienced the same thing and if you brought it to apple, what did they do about it? thanx for d replies =)

I'd take the "claimed" battery life with a pinch of salt. The battery lasted that long when it was tested in a simulated enviornment in one of Apple's testing labs - in real life the battery can last many hours less than Apple claims. This is can be due to a number of factors - brightness of screen, amount of times the iPod is accessed, bit-rate of songs, format of videos. These factors can all lead to the battery lasting considerably less than Apple claims. 12-13 hours doesn't sound too bad but there was an issue with the battery draining overnight for no reason on the early iPod classics but that was supposed to be put right with the new firmware, although I still read about batteries draining overnight with people running firmware 1.1.1 on the forums. Your iPod is still under warranty, so to be safe I'd get Apple to take a look at it. Either arrange for service online or make an appointment to see someone at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store.
