Fonts in Font Book do not show up in Photoshop Application

I've just installed 10.4 Tiger in hopes of resolving font issues that were simply insurmountable in 10.3. Much to my dismay, while the font book clears up much of the mess, my problem remains. A font which I've used extensively for graphics applications refuses to show up in Photoshop. The font book says it is in all three locations (User/Computer/Classic Mac OS) shown in the "Collections" dialog window. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can resolve this? Please be kindergarten specific. I am not a techie, sad to say!

Usually the problem is the reverse: things show up in Adobe apps but not other apps, because Adobe has its own Fonts folder.

Maybe some more details will help:

-Is it only one font that's behavintg this way? Which one? What kind of font is it (TrueType, PostScript, etc... ) What is it's "kind" on the desktop, in a window or in Get Info>?

-What version of Photoshop are you using? Do you have other Adobe applications, and does the font show up in them?

-Font Book is showing the font in three locations. Not that this should prevent it from showing up in Pshop's menu, but: do all three locations have the same version of the font? (Select each one in the Font Book Font list, and set Preview menu to Font Info to get that info)

-How did the font get where it is? Did you install it through Font Book? Did you drag it into the various Fonts folders? Going through Font Book validates the font - checks the file for corruption; a direct drag doesn't validate. But once they're in Font Book, you can use the Validate Font command to check the files, so select each of the three versions in turn and do the Validate.

If it makes you feel any better, there's no obvious reason the font isn't showing up. And, of course, people shouldn't have to be techies to make this stuff work right!

Hi s. Fredrick,

What specific fonts are you having issue(s) with?

We had just recently loaded some Adobe Open Type fonts and couldn't find them in any Adobe Creative Suite applications. After talking to Adobe tech support, the issue is with fonts that have both Western and Cyrillic coding (example: Helvetica Standard). This font is actually showing up in the CS apps font list but way down at the bottom of the list with the foreign fonts. Adobe knows it's a problem and says it's an Apple issue, Apple states it's an Adobe issue.

So far as I am aware it is one font, although that is the only one I'm really looking for. The font is New Berolina MT, a true type font by Monotype Corp. I am using Photoshop 7. All versions of the font are the same and all three have been validated within Font Book. I believe I did install them by drag/drop but have since validated each, as you suggested. I don't have any other Adobe programs but the font does show up in Appleworks and QuarkXpress.

This is a font which I've used on my computers for at least 7 years.

Here is what Font Book says:

New Berolina MT
New Berolina MT, 18 pt.

PostScript name NewBerolinaMT
Full name New Berolina MT
Family New Berolina MT
Style Regular
Kind TrueType
Language English, German, French, Italian, Spanish
Version 001.001 : Feb 1992 : Imprint set
Location /Users/admin/Library/Fonts/New Berolina MT
Unique name New Berolina MT : 1992
Copyright Copyright (C) 1992 Monotype Corporation plc. All rights reserved.
Trademark New Berolina is a Trademark of Monotype Corporation plc.
Enabled Yes
Duplicate No

This doesn't appear to have any Cyrillic coding, as Cleof surmises. Guess that would have been too easy a solution, eh?

Thanks for the vote of confidence as to my lack of tech headdedness. Some days one's computer can be most humbling.
