iPod to iTunes

I recently had to completely clean my computer to get rid of many viruses. In doing this it deleted all my music from iTunes. I still have all my music and movies etc. on my iPod but i dunno if it is possible to put them back on iTunes from my iPod. If i sync it will it delete the songs on my iPod or put them in the iTunes library? will someone plz clarify this for me?
