Next Generation of iMac

hello there
lm planning to get new iMac 24",wow~~~tempting. but l have been told, iMac going to upgrade soon, maybe july. l dont know if is real, shall l just buy it? lm just afraid after l get it then new staff just come out 😟 😟 anyone have any suggestion.

If there is no urgency you will always get more for your money by hanging on, but if you really do need it you will buy it now.

If you can wait then most definately wait. If you just can't live another day without a new Mac then by all means go out today and get one 😉

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.

At Apple's request we don't discuss future Apple products in these technical forums however you should be aware that Intel replaced the older Merom processors (used in the current iMacs) with the new Penryn processors in Feb/Mar. Apple still uses Merom in the iMacs at this time.

Please can someone clear this up for a Mac newbie? I realise that the iMac runs on Merom processor but the Intel Core 2 Extreme listed in the specs of the 24" is 45nm processor when you search on Intel's web site.

Is this just a marketing issue with the Merom and Penryn processors having the same name?

The processor in the high end iMac 24" is the 2.8GHz Merom XE (X7900) which AFAIK is 65nm:

Core 2.

Do you really need it? I've noticed that iMac spec refreshes are very infrequent. I wouldn't hold my breath for next week. If you really do need it, then get it. Otherwise be prepared to wait at least several months or so assuming it's gonna be whole year before the iMac gets refreshed. Then get it as soon as the refresh comes because it might be another year before the specs get refreshed again.
