No @, [, ] or \ on the keyboard when using windows xp on Macbook Pro Danish

I have installed Windows XP using boot camp.
I am a Dane with a Danish Keyboard on my few months old MacBook Pro.
Using Windows (for some science programs that are not otherwise available), I am unable to reach a wealth of characters usually avilable to me. Some of which are also usually available to the standard Windows XP user.

@, [, ] and ⁄ are some of them.
We are talking 'at' - as in mail addresses, square parentheses and backslash (boy, was my IT-support upset, he was finally convinced to try to get a Mac that he could use for both OS'es - forget it! He needs his at's and backslashes....). All of the ones I have noticed I have a problem with are reached on the ThinkPad using the AltGr modifier key.

On a Think Pad and on my MacBook I went into the 'on screen keyboard' and they look the same. However, they sure don't function the same: when I click one of these characters it does not show up in a Word document although letters such as 'A', 'æ' and 'Ø' do. Other characters-the curly brackets! - are usable in the sense that using the on-screen keyboard (clicking the character) produces them in the word document.

I have gone through all keys with one or all-combinations-of-two modifier keys pressed - no @. Nothing produces it.

Now, the trackpad is one issue. Not being able to click on it is at serious pain in the butt, but this is a total disaster.

I called support under my 90 days support. They told me it was a Windows problem. Can that be true? They suggested I call Microsoft... They more-or-less said Microsoft wrote Boot Camp and the drivers. I wonder what Microsoft support will say if I call them and explain this problem to them.

I would have thought everybody would be yelling if it were a general problem. The fact that my IT-support has the same problem made me think it might be specific for international customers (and I've seen post from a few with the problem), but I saw one Swede here specified that he does get @. Of course my IT and I used the same Windows installation.

Any suggestions?

Berthe

Hi Berthe,
Don't know if you already figured this one out, but I recently purchased a macbook myself and installed Windows on it. I also ran into the key configuration problem and had to do a little trial and error before I found the solution. If you use the option key on the right, this is the equivalent of "alt gr" on a windows keyboard. Pressing this and e.g. the number "2" in the top produces a @ sign, at least that's what worked for me. Various key combinations on my macbook was:
@ = right alt + 2

[ = right alt + 8

] = right alt + 9

{ = right alt + 7

} = right alt + 0

\ = right alt + <

As for the touchpad issue, I'm with you there, it's really a royal pain the rear, but hopefully this will get fixed soon.

Hoped this works for you too.

Regards,
Patrick.
