Question Mark instead of mouse pointer

The question mark icon sounds like the Help function of previous OS X versions. If you click the mouse on a folder or a file, does anything happen?

I too faced a similar situation.I access my Mac machine which is remotely located using normal pc.Whenever I get this question mark problem I just restart the system and its works fine.

I get a question mark cursor (in some applications, e.g., Safari) when I press the "Help" button on my keyboard. But the cursor goes back to normal when I click on something. I suppose your keyboard could be the trouble. But, what I really wanted to do is ask you: Does this behavior persist after a Logout/Login and/or Restart?

Yup, bad keyboard. The fact that it did the same thing with a new user account eliminated the possibility that either you did something in your account or that there was a problem with some plist file. Give credit to the previous poster, CT.

No clue. Try creating a new user account, just for a test.

Hmmmm, you wouldn't have a spare Mac keyboard sitting around?
