"Errors occurred while installing the updates. If the problem persists,..."

Hi,
I am using Windows Vista 32-bit SP1. In the Apple Software Update, it asks me to install Boot Camp Update 2.1.

I click install.

After it downloads it, it initially tries to install it, but then an error box comes up and says "Errors occurred while installing the updates. If the problem persists, choose Tools > Download Only and try installing manually"

Anybody get this error? Did downloading it and installing manually work?

Also, can you install Bootcamp 2.1 from Mac OS X instead of Windows?

Thanks.

Just want to confirm that you guys do have Boot Camp Version 2.0 installed right? To double check what you have, boot into windows and look in the system tray. There should be a diamond shaped icon for boot camp. RIGHT CLICK on it and choose ABOUT BOOT CAMP. A windows should pop up and state version 2.0.
If you have version 2.0 and your updates are still not installing then I am not sure what is wrong. Will keep researching.

How about removing boot camp 2.0 and immediately re-installing it and then running the Apple Update to update to 2.1? Its definitely worth a try.

1. Boot in Windows
2. Insert your Leaopard Installation Disk
3. This should run boot camp automatically and give you options to Repair/Install or Remove.
4. Choose Remove.
5. Once removed then eject the disk and re-insert to get to the same menu
6. Re-install Boot Camp 2.0
7. Once that is completed then re-boot
8. Run Apple Software Update and install Boot Camp 2.1 when offered

Thoughts?

If everything is running well with your VISTA then I wouldn't even bother going further with Boot Camp 2.1
I installed 2.1 and see virtually no difference in performance with the hardware that Boot Camp provides the drivers for. At present, there is no way of knowing what exactly are the differences in 2.0 and 2.1.
To summarize, you have done a lot to get this version installed. You are already at 2.0 and if it is working fine then just keep it for now until Apple releases the next version that does a lot more than 2.1.

Axel,

I think that only works under XP...? I'm runing Vista and I don't have the Boot Camp icon in my system tray.... it's not there...??

I am not sure about Vista 32-bit, but my Vista 64 bit has a bootcamp Icon in the tray. Actually it has two, one for BC2.0 and one for BC2.1, but my XP has a single BC icon in the same place.
Did you insert the Leopard DVD and install the drivers when you installed Leopard? That's where BC2.0 comes from, the Leopard DVD.

I am having the same problem as the OP. I tried restarting Windows Vista (32bit) and then installing automatically and manually, but neither ends without erros. Also, the hardware keys (brightness, vol control, etc) no longer work and I have no icon in the system tray any longer (I definitely had one before).

If you get install errors with BC, then whatever other hardware problems you have are not significant until you resolve the main issue - your install failure.
