Black vs. White Macbook

Hey guys, I am going to be getting a Macbook here in a week or so, but have a question. The 2.4 Ghz books come in white and black. The only difference I see between them is the size of the hard drive, as the black has a 250 and the white a 160.

The price difference between the two books is $200. If you add the 250 HDD to the white book, it becomes a $100 difference. Why does the black one cost more? I looked through the site, but can't see any other differences. Just wondering if the black book had some extra features or specs.

Because people who are having problems come here just for that reason. People aren't coming here when they aren't having any problems. There are far more people who are trouble free and don't need to come here.

Apple has always charged a premium for black MacBooks. Why? Because people will pay it.

Actually, the black Macbook has a significantly nicer finish, IMO - it's not just a black version of the same plastic. I'm sure it costs more to do, though probably not nearly $100.

So while yes, you are paying a premium for black, there's more to it than pure color, so the issue is not black and white. 🙂

Hi,

I saw your topic and just wanted to answer,
My sister and I have both MacBook (the white and the black) and I can tell you that the differences between thoses two models are not big.

Indeed, their performances are similar so the real difference is on the design,
And that's a fact, the black is the best one 😝

I have a MacBook Black and agree it looks way cooler than the white although it does show up fingerprints VERY easily. If you don't mind wiping it down with a damp cloth every week or so then it's worth paying the extra for a black model. Just my opinion though!

Your money would be better spent to buy the white one and spend the extra 100 on some RAM. It is very easy to install yourself. In my opinion, the black one is made for people who are willing to pay extra to blend in. Personally, I like the attention that comes when you open a white MacBook in a room full of pc's. But that's just me.

Wasn't the cracking only in the earlier models? I went with the white because the black seems to get really shiny on the palm rests after a while. I guess it'll be ok though if you don't have really sweaty hands.

That's what I thought as well. Well, both white and black Macbooks does have its disadvantages. The rest pad on the white Macbook will turn black overtime if not taken properly. The black Macbook will be oily if not taken properly. I would get the black Macbook if you want some exclusivity. 🙂

Black or white, I don't think the colour makes any difference when it comes to attention. As soon as that Apple logo lights up on the lid, it guarantees attention! Just a shame it's covered up with a badly colour matched sticker when they make an appearance on TV shows!

Personally, I bought a black MacBook because it offered the largest hard drive of the 3 models available......... oh ok, and because it's black!
