placing scanned pictures in the timeline

Hello,

I have scanned a bunch of pictures (in jpeg format, if that matters) and edited them in iPhoto '08. Now, I am attempting to put them into the timeline, and when I grab one & drag it into the timeline, all 40 pictures that I scanned & edited appear in the timeline.

What causes this, and how can I just drag individual pictures into the timeline?

I assume you imported them and they appear in your browser. If you imported them together, by default they're all selected. In your browser window, click in any empty area to de-select everything, then click and drag the one you want into your timeline.

First Thing your images should be .TIF rather than jpeg. I have used jpegs but, TIF is best to use.
When you import your file it should put the file in your browser. if you drag the file it will put all the images in your time line, or you can open the file and drop one at a time.
