I am importing stills into my movie and I would like them all to be 4 seconds long but when I put them in my timeline they automatically go to 10 seconds. Is there a way to set it so they automatically go to 4 seconds?
This is an option under User Preferences (Option-Q), in the Editing tab (if I'm not mistaken). Should be labeled as +Still Frame Duration.+ Adjust that value to 4 seconds.

This change will only affect stills imported after the change.
If you have a great number of images, delete them from the browser, make the duration change in the settings and reimport the images. They will now all have the desired duration.
Another way would be to lay down all the stills imported prior to the User Preferences adjustment in the timeline and, with all selected Control-click over one of the stills and select *Duration (00:00:10;00)* from the shortcut menu. Altering the value to 4 seconds will them trim them all down by 6 seconds.
(This doesn't actually set the duration to a standard, but instead trims all clips by the same amount from their Out points. So, if one clip is, say, 5 seconds, it will fail.)
