CRT Monitor never recognized Mac Mini

I bought a Mac Mini recently and couldn't get it to work with my 19" Hitachi CRT. No matter what I did, the monitor wouldn't show anything from the Mac Mini. I tried switching inputs, checking connections, restarting both the monitor and the mini. Nothing. My hunch is that the power output of the mac mini wasn't enough to get the monitor to come out of power save mode, which is what happens when there is no video signal. So I'm getting a Dell. Apple, you almost had me! Maybe when the Mactels come out. I know that someone is going to say, wait you didn't try this new fangled connector...or maybe you had to hold down some special keys. But on principal, I bought something for $500, took it home and it failed to work. That, coupled with the problems I've had with my iPod. The problems my roomate has had with his iPod and his iBook. The problems that numerous people are having with their iMacs. And this general Apple sentiment that I should "deal". Well, it's back to the common-man world of computer for me. Still, I love the software design. Thank you!

I know how you feel. I bought a Mac Mini yesterday. I plugged it up to the monitor my G4 used and got nothing. I tried a second monitor my son uses, no dice. I took my Sharp LCD monitor out of my G5 and finally got a picture. But when I tried to play the Incredibles or Nanosaur for my children, the screen went blank and I got an "Out of Timing" message. I've had a lot of Macs in my life, but this has been a very bad experience. Top it off with being on hold for 10 minutes with Apple Customer Service only to have the phone disconnect. Not a good Apple day.

Sorry to hear about this Reeb. Please don't write Apple off just yet. Plenty of people have problems also with their Dell's. I too am very disappointed that Apple expects everyone to just 'deal' with the bad video problem, but I also feel that it will be addressed soon. OS X is the best operating system around, and it would be a shame if you missed out on it.
