Looking for LCD TV/Monitor for Mini

I've been reading the discussion on LCD monitors for the Mini. Whew! Didn't know there would be such issues.

I received a Mini for a new apartment I'm moving into. I also need a TV, so I'm thinking of buying a 19-25" LCD TV/Monitor with CATV input for television and DVI to connect to the Mini. The Apple monitors seem great but are expensive.I've seen a few out there for $600-800. Here are my questions:

1. Is this a good idea to begin with (I'm not particularly technical, and all the problems I'm reading about are spooking me)?
2. I'm sure the TV will look great - how will the Mini display look? I'm concerned it may look fuzzy even in native resolution.
3. Any recommendations as to what model to buy?

I think the LCD TV is a good call. I occasionally hook our family mini up to a 37" LCD TV that has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 and the result is stunning. A good working distance from the screen is around 4 feet (~1.2 m) for when you want to read text easily for this particular monitor, so I can't use it at the normal viewing distance used when watching TV, e.g. our sofa is about twice that distance back from the TV. Something to think about.

I recommend you purchase the LCD TV from a place with liberal return policies so that if it doesn't work the way you want it to, you can return the TV. Alternately, some people have hauled their minis down to retail outlets and talked the sales staff into letting them try the mini in the store before purchasing a plasma or LCD TV. You might try that approach.

your best bet will be a hd ready set with 720p lines, ie the toshiba, philips, etc.

some have 768 lines like my panasonic. (which i am using now), its ok via vga, attach a dvi-hdmi lead and it works a treat even switches to the mini automatically. BUT. because my panasonic is the 768 lines if it is set to its nearest resolution. (1344x 720) you get a inch worth of black line around the edge and over scan doesnt cure this. (the exact of my tv is 1366x 768 )

if you get a toshiba which is the next best thing. it has 1344 x 720 lines and will work a treat.

you can get a toshiba hd ready set (in the uk) model number 27WL56 for £800, which i suppose is around the $1000 mark. but it should suit you to the ground.

I love my set but need my mini to output 1366x 768.

its not bad, i have a panasonic with a 1000:1 contrast ratio, which is a little greater than the viewsonic. but if it works ok then thats all that matters, it doesnt seem a bad price either.

1 of the best sets on the marker is the sony, KDLV26A12 which is a 26 inch hd readly lcd tv. the picture quality is eceptional, ad i have to agree it is marginably better than my panasonic, (its actually much better than that but my tv cost me £1400 same price as the sony, but i like panasonic more)

but which ever you get.... ENJOY
